![]() To create more depth you can apply bronzer on the areas where the sun would naturally hit your face. Lightly dust the powder to create a long-lasting contour. Creams should always be set with a translucent powder to prevent smudging and melting if you’re in the heat. Once you have finished blending you will want to lock your work in place. The particular one that I use is the Beauty Blender. Tip: Cream formulas are best blended with a damp sponge. My two favorite cream contour sticks are the Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24H Foundation Stick and the Benefit Hoola Cream-to-Powder Quickie Contour Stick. For powders, I prefer the Sigma F40 Angled Contour Brush and the MAC 137s Long Blending Brush. My favorite tools for applying powder contour are angled and/or light fluffy brushes. Three of my favorite contouring products are Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Matte Bronzer Powder and Hoola Lite Matte Bronzing Powder. Tip: It is hard to blend a shade that is too dark for your natural coloring. If your contour isn’t blended evenly you may end up with a muddy makeup look or streaks. Blending is KEYīlending is the next essential step when learning how to contour. You can always go back and apply more as needed. Tip: If you are using a powder always remember to tap off the excess powder before application. You can use my face map above as a guide but remember everyone’s face shape is different. Personally I like to add a little under my bottom lip to accentuate my pout. Then lightly dust some product along your temples, jaw line, and underneath your chin. The easiest way to know where to apply your contour, simply suck in your cheeks to find the hollow and this is where you would lightly apply your ‘shadow’. Tip: O ily skin usually does best with powder formulas and dry skin usually does best with cream formulas. You can decide whether you would like cream or powder formulas based on your skin type. ![]() Typically I never go more than two shades darker than my natural skin tone. ![]() The best shades for contouring are nudes and taupes to create shadows rather than bronzers. Choosing The Right Contour ShadeĬhoosing the right shade to contour with is the most essential step when learning how to contour. Learning How to Contour your face may seem intimidating or time-consuming, but the truth is you can contour in 5 easy steps. Beginners: How To Contour Your Face In 5 Easy StepsĬontouring and highlighting is the backbone to creating a beautiful makeup look creating depth and dimension. ![]()

![]() ![]() Morita was glad to be back with his family, but he was also too young to understand why they were being held. After a little over a year spent there, the family was transported to California’s Tule Lake War Relocation Center. He recalled being escorted (as an 11-year-old boy) by an FBI agent directly from the hospital to the Gila River War Relocation Center in Arizona. Unfortunately, the year was 1943, and Morita’s family were Japanese immigrants. When Morita was released from the hospital with his disease in check, he was reunited with his family. He later said, "If it wasn’t for my disease, I wouldn’t be here today." Though the experience was extremely difficult for him, Morita understood that the hardship of his childhood helped form his personality and make him who he was later in life. Morita recalled that his time spent at the Weimar Institute was emotionally and mentally taxing, so he "had to find things to laugh at." He would tell jokes, make up stories, and try to get his nurses to crack smiles. This is where Morita developed his sense of humor and comedic timing. Because of this, he spent much of his time staring at the ceiling, trying to come up with ways to keep himself entertained. Morita wasn’t just confined to a bed for almost a decade of his childhood -– he was often totally immobilized in a full-body cast that ran from neck to thigh. The treatment worked, and Morita was eventually able to defy grim expectations and overcome the worst-case scenarios for his disease. Eventually, Morita was transferred to San Francisco’s Shriners Hospital and was given the opportunity to go through an experimental bone graft treatment that allowed his spine to fuse. He spent almost a decade of his life in a TB ward called the Weimar Institute, often immobilized and encased in a full-body cast. Morita’s childhood was spent far from the world of strip-mall karate classes, however -– he actually suffered from a rare disease and was told he’d never be able to walk.Īt the age of two, Morita was diagnosed with tuberculosis of the spine, also known as Pott disease. He’s such an impressive and affecting mentor, he managed to reach kids in the real world: The film’s popularity is often cited as a primary force in the rise of youth martial arts academies. ![]() Here are some of the things you didn’t know about the man behind Mr. Like his most famous character, Morita himself lived a fascinating and tragic life. He would go on to reprise the role in three more films in the franchise. It was the only Oscar nod of Morita’s long acting career. His performance was so resonant, he even received an Academy Award nomination. Miyagi is from actor Pat Morita.īorn Noriyuki Morita, the actor brought a lot of himself to the role as the kindly but complicated Miyagi. Few characters from that era are as inseparable from their actors as Mr. Even though The Karate Kid isn’t always viewed as a true "martial arts" movie, few can deny its cultural impact or longevity – and a big part of the film’s success is due to Mr. Miyagi, the kind and beloved sensei of The Karate Kid, is one of the most legendary characters of the 1980s. ![]() ![]() I’m also a believer in giving small steps that lead up to big changes that are often more sustainable.ĥ. The numbers don’t lie and most teachers then realize it’s time to try some new strategies. I normally tackle this with educational research and pedagogy to show the correlation between student success and having inclusive and welcoming learning environments. Some teachers are most resistant to change because there’s comfort in routine and doing things the way they have always been done, but when that way is no longer working or is harmful to children it is time to rethink the true purpose of school and education. When we rely on our schooling experience we are leaving out many factors that should be guiding our instruction, classroom routines, and interactions. Oftentimes the barrier is a lack of knowledge or understanding that we as teachers need to be flexible in our thinking about how learning and a classroom should look in 2020. Are there any roadblocks or mental barriers that teachers have to work through when creating inclusive environments in their classrooms? How do you tackle this? When this is done correctly it creates a school family dynamic that can make everyone feel at home and invested in what happens in and out of their classroom collectively. It is essential to not one build one-on-one relationships with each of their students, but also to help students get to know and care about each other. I always encourage them to build a strong sense of community first. Most teachers honestly want to do what is best for children. What is some advice or tips that you give them? There’s something about teachers hearing their colleagues share the unfortunate experiences they endured in school that resonates and often makes them truly reflect on how inclusive their classrooms may or may not be. For some people school was an amazing place where they shined and excelled, while others have traumatic experiences of being isolated or chastised for being different. I usually begin by asking them what their personal schooling experience was like. When teaching inclusion to early childhood education teachers, how do you start the conversation? I’m super passionate about creating literary resources that help teachers and parents prepare children to be the empathetic, courageous, and thoughtful changemakers we need in the world.Ģ. I believe that reading diverse books promotes empathy, understanding, and respect for others while offering unique perspectives and information outside of our personal experiences.
